Do you love sushi but never thought you could make it on your own at home? Well join us on October 8th to learn how to make your very own sushi at our next Sushi Bar class! We will be teaching you how to make a healthy and simple cucumber salad, tofu bowl, and California roll!

The cucumber salad is a new recipe to Cooking on Campus this semester and consists of English cucumbers, red onion, sesame oil, toasted sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes. Cucumbers contain a lot of water and help keep you hydrated. Red onions are a great addition because they have lots of flavor, few calories and have organosulfur compounds that have  antioxidant effects, which means they may help ward off certain types of cancer. Sesame seeds give the salad a rich and nutty flavor and extra fiber, which helps us feel satisfied after we eat.

We are excited to try the Tofu bowl! This dish includes tofu, onion, cornstarch, broccoli, brown sugar, vegetable oil and rice. If you don’t prefer meat, tofu is a great substitute because it’s a wonderful source of plant protein and contains all nine essential amino acids. Onions and broccoli provide fiber and extra vitamin C in this meal.

Finally, we will be showing you how to make California Rolls! For this recipe we will be using sticky rice, seaweed, avocado, imitation crab and cucumber. Seaweed is a great source of fiber that is excellent for gut health. Avocado contains folic acid, which aids in lowering high blood pressure and it’s a fiber-rich food with lots of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat!

All of these recipes for our Sushi Bar night are easy and fun to make, delicious and good for you! You can register for our class online or at the front desk. Please join us on Tuesday, October 8th at 5:15 pm at Outdoor Rec to learn some cool sushi making techniques and ideas. We hope to see you there!
